Chagai left before I could ask him to sign our guest book. But while here he was in awe of treed hills and mountains viewed from his suite deck. At home he had done some research on eagles. He was thrilled to see eagles on nearby tree tops calling and watching the bay waters for prey. He rose early this morning and went to our beach wearing my borrowed sandals. I asked his if he was going to try walking on the water but said no, he didn’t have the skills. With his local friend Chris he dipped beneath the water surface experiencing a mikveh cleanse. Peter

Family 1967 Chevelle Qualifies for Collector Plate

This 1967 Chevelle was purchased new by Peter’s parents. His father Allan drove it to his law office for several years then passed it to Peter’s mother Georgie. Georgie drove it until Allan retired in 1995 at which time the vehicle was parked unused. They gave it to Peter in 1997 who did a frame-off restoration which was finally completed in 2012. The photo shows Georgie with Peter’s daughter Karen. Georgie, now 95, has just seen the car for the first time on the road and registered. Karen remembers her family being picked up by Grandma and Grandpa with the Chevelle after church on Sundays and going to the A&W drive-in for hamburgers and root beer. It is a 2 door hard top, black vinyl roof, red interior with bucket seats, 327 engine.

Making a B&B

Our comfortable suites coupled with our focus on paying attention to detail as well as guest comfort and satisfaction has been the means to our success.
[/quote]
After a restful night in a comfortable bed, a hot shower and a tasty breakfast in The Hunker Down B&B many a guest questions what the friendly owner has done to justify the $200 per night fee. On the surface it appears he has just redecorated the spare bedroom and baked some great muffins. Perhaps a would-be operator thinks that is the extent of the operation.
Following is a brief account on the creation of our At the Shore B&B. The inspiration came to Norma and I during a month long journey through the Atlantic Maritimes staying in B&Bs.
Back home a one day seminar on operating a bed and breakfast convinced us we could be successful operators. We located and purchased an appropriate house on a 3/4 acre waterfront property on the west side of Porpoise Bay, 5 minutes from the village of Sechelt. The house had a lower level walkout to a deck and a magnificent panoramic view of the bay.
With the help of a local interior decorator we developed a lower level floor plan featuring two 600 square foot suites, a media room, an office, a hall and a storage room. With our building permit in hand the suites were created and decorated.
We then applied for membership in the local B&B association which gave us a wonderful support group. A local web designer produced a website for us and we had various printed materials created showcasing our suites. We then concentrated on advertizing.
We started with rack cards at the local visitors’ centre and joined some carefully chosen B&B websites. With some trepidation we welcomed our first guests and quickly became very comfortable sharing our home with strangers. We recorded income and expenses.
After 6 years of operation we decided our suites needed a theme. We chose to go maritime and added model sailing ships, framed marine prints, a few maritime knick knacks and books featuring the square riggers of the 18th century. Our comfortable suites coupled with our focus on paying attention to detail as well as guest comfort and satisfaction has been the means to our success.

Sechelt Golf and Country Club

Sechelt Golf and Country Club is an 18 hole, par 72 links style course, designed and built by Olson, Beatty and Hnatiuk (1990-1992).
The course itself features generous fairways and large gently sloping greens, and there are just enough hazards to make the course challenging, while the multiple tee system allows players to golf at their own level.
It can be best described as a beautiful golf course where wildlife abounds and there are views of the snow capped coastal range and Porpoise Bay.
Two practice putting greens and a covered and lit driving range are also part of the complex.

Proceed 6.6 km to Sandy Hook Road. Park here and look for the Hidden Grove sign on the right hand side of the road. The trail begins here.
